Teaching as a Caring Profession
Nurturing Care & Creativity in Higher Design Education
What is EduCare?
EduCare is a research project which aims to establish a care-centered educational framework for design and other academic fields, promoting well-being, inclusion, and innovative teaching.
It seeks to identify gaps related to care in design education, develop care-focused pedagogical and training tools, test and refine training for care and creativity through pilot programs, and communicate, disseminate and expand care-centered educational methodologies.
Five work packages will be developed collaboratively between 2025 and 2027. Among several outcomes, a pedagogical framework will be created to synthesize the research findings, along with various training resources that will be made available to educators, communities connected to design and care, and other interested sectors.
Why is it important?
Higher education, and design education in particular, is experiencing a care crisis. According to the OECD and UNESCO, nearly half of university instructors report high levels of stress and burnout, and 38% of students suffer from anxiety or depression. This affects the quality of learning, inclusion, and creativity.
EduCare emerges from this urgency: to recognize teaching as a caring profession, placing well-being and creativity at the center of design education.
